My three main areas of work, although distinct, are quite related. Mastery Counseling is about helping people gain control of their own lives to the extent possible in the context of existing conditions. As people struggle to control their lives, they are confronted on a daily basis with the necessity of making decisions. The Seven Challenges offers a model for decision-making that I first developed while writing a program for people with drug problems. Relationships – good, bad, and in between – have an enormous impact on quality of life. So, my other main interest has been in helping people develop and maintain loving, equal, and cooperative relationships.
